A little age toned, otherwise a good clean book. Authors inscription on front free end papers. To Guy + Dec Cooper Willis with affection from Algernon Blackwood 1934. Episodes before Thirty was published in 1924. This is the first edition in the Travellers Library. The author writes "I first set down these adventures immediately on my return from America and while the memories burned fresh and vivid…..This new and revised edition offered to a fresh decade of readers has been changed in no essential from the original and with the exception of one or two minor corrections remains unaltered…"

Gilt titles to spine with five raised bands. Edge wear to binding. Top edge gilt with page marker ribbon in good order. PP364, decorative end papers. Some dampstaining to Frontis portrait of Kingsley and title page, all other pages clean and bight throughout. Neat previous ownership inscription on front free end paper dated 1894. A handsome book.

Florence Nightingale by Irene Cooper Willis, 1931

Willis, Irene Cooper,: Florence Nightingale. Coward McCann, New York. 1931. 8vo, approx 210mm x 150mm, pp275. Grey cloth with darker grey titles to spine with head and shoulder motif of Nightingale on the front cover. This motif is copied on both front and back end papers. Spine is darkened, a little age toning to pages but otherwise clean and bright throughout. This biography aimed at a readership "for older girls" by a well respected author and literary academic of the time. An uncommon edition from this publisher.
