Carew, Thomas. A Rapture, Golden Cockerel, 1927. 12mo, limited edition no 144 of 375. PP14, colophon[1], with two full page engravings by J.E.Laboureur. Bound by Simeon Jones in full natural coloured morroco. The front cover inlaid indicating a rapturous pair. Within a suede lined, gilt decorated clamshell box. Simeon Jones, recently elected Licentiate of Designer Bookbinders was highly commended for this book in the 2009 Designer Bookbinders Competition. In 2007 he won the Arthur Johnson prize, judged by Bernard Middleton. In 2008 he was awarded the Friends of John Rylands prize for Finishing. A talent which has already found homes for his bindings in The British Library and Private Collections in the UK, Europe and USA. A rare opportunity to acquire a lovely book within a clever fine binding by an aspiring bookbinding talent.

London, Bickers and Son. 1871. 4to. Red morroco. Gilt decoration with black inlays. 5 raised bands, gilt decoration with black inlays, black and gilt title piece. Silk tricolour headbands. All edges gilt. Gilt inner dentils, marbled end papers. Frontis portrait, half title, title, preface vii-xxix, Life of Aesop xxx -xxxvi, Essay Upon Fable xxxvii -xl. Pp312. 142 fables most with at least one illustration by Bewick, within a red printed border. Skillful reback retaining original spine, inner hinges strengthened. All pages and illustrations in excellent order throughout. The skillful beauty of Bewick illustrations with the fables from nature including Ants and Grasshopper, Trees and the Bramble, Hounds in Couples, Mercury and Woodman, Dog and the Crocodile, Angler and Philosopher. A very attractive book.

Wilde. Oscar, The Happy Prince. Preface by Morris Jacobs, illustrated by Mikhail Magaril. New York, Summer Garden Editions, 1997. 1st Edition, Fifty copies of this book were printed. The edition was hand coloured, bound and signed by the artist & Morris Jacobs. This copy number 32. Narrow Folio approx 430mm x 150mm. Black and pictorial yellow cloth, gilt and black label to spine. PP36, set in Garamond Number 3. 50 copies of this book were printed on Fabriano Rosaspina paper by offset lithography. With an additional Drypoint watercolour number 3 of 5 signed by Magaril. All enclosed within a labelled black and grey clamsell box. 1 very light mark to box and bump to corner. Book and illustration in mint condition. This fine, beautiful book has been hand made by the artist Mikhail Magaril. A must for any collector of Oscar Wilde, Magril, Designer Bound Books or Drypoint Limited Prints. A book to Treasure.

Decorative title in red and black, initials in red, pp 151, ten full-page colour illustrations by John Bratby, list of subscribers at rear, colophon, on handmade paper made by Timothy Powell of Sheepstor, Devon. An attractive collaboration from South West England. Very good condition throughout.
