The edition was hand coloured, bound and signed by the artist & Morris Jacobs. This copy number 32. Narrow Folio approx 430mm x 150mm. Black and pictorial yellow cloth, gilt and black label to spine. PP36, set in Garamond Number 3. 50 copies of this book were printed on Fabriano Rosaspina paper by offset lithography. With an additional Drypoint watercolour number 3 of 5 signed by Magaril. All enclosed within a labelled black and grey clamsell box. 1 very light mark to box and bump to corner. Book and illustration in mint condition. Princeton University ref Folio 87794. Carl Hertzog Award for Excellence in Book Design 2000.

Decorative title in red and black, initials in red, pp 151, ten full-page colour illustrations by John Bratby, list of subscribers at rear, colophon, on handmade paper made by Timothy Powell of Sheepstor, Devon. An attractive collaboration from South West England. Very good condition throughout.

Curtis, Robert Emerson. Building the Bridge. Sydney, Simmons Limited, 1933. Folio. 1st Edition, Limited, no 254 of 400, signed by Robert Emerson Curtis and also inscribed. Cloth backed paper boards decorated in silver and red with an underside view of the bridge in construction. The cloth at spine is showing wear but holding strong. Pp60 including 13 full page lithographs of the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and one coloured showing the completed bridge at night illuminated by both manmade lights and starlight. All pages are bright and clean. Curtis's artistry combines the huge engineering project with the fragility of human involvement. Curtis went on to become a war artist. The colophon shows an inscription in Curtis's hand "To Sir Michael Culme Seymour, Sydney April 15 1945". A very interesting association copy of this attractive book, in excellent order.

Green cloth with gilt pictorial decoration and titles to front, gilt title to spine, a little bumped at edges. Adverts to front and back endpapers. Hinges becoming loose but holding the firm book block. Bookplate "Tervoe" verso front end paper, Neat ownership inscription of The Lady Emly Xmas 1876. 24 plates, as called for, with alphabetical and illustrations from designs by the author, printed in colour by Kronheim. All plates and pages are guarded, clean and bright. An entertaining book with an interesting provenance. Baron Emly, William Monsell (1812-1894), was elected as a member of Parliament. During his parliamentary tenure he became President of the Board of Trade, Postmaster-General. In 1858, Caleb Powell, appointed him as a Grand Juror. He married his second wife Berthe (the inscriber of this book) in 1857. In 1874 he was created Baron Emly of Tervoe.

Edges and spine a little sunned. Marbled endpapers. Pp78. Top edge gilt, all pages bright and clean. This edition "out of series" written in the hand of the author, together with an inscription to C.S. Evans (Heinemann Press) under the dedication to W. S. Maugham " and lastly to C.S. Evans/one of the gentlemen who stands/between me and success! / With the greetings of the author / and the compliments of The Unicorn Press. / J. Bason 1931." A pencil remark follows "x This is a reference to the fact / that I have found myself unable / to publish Mr Basons novels and stories / C S Evans". There is also a typed letter included dated June 13th 1949, signed by Dwye (Son of C.S. Evans and Director of Heinemann to 1973) to B. F. Oliver Esq of Kingswood. It reads " My dear o., / I thought you might like to / see this copy of the Bason's bibliography / of Maugham. You might like to base / the new book on it. Would you let me/have it back. / Ken McCormick of Doubledays is over here now and would like to have / an estimate for 1000 and 2000 folded / and collated sheets of Maughamiana. / He is seeing Maugham on July 2nd / and would like to have the figures before / then. / Yours/Dwye. (Maughamiana: The Writings of W. Somerset Maugham by Raymond Toole Stott went on to be published by both Heinemann and Doubleday in 1950). This book a very good reference source, with an interesting provenance.

Preface dated October 19th 1922 signed by Dunsany in wide nib ink, Contents, pp3-232, containing an additional 9 captioned, tissue guarded images signed by Sidney H Sime, 2 pages blank. Vellum a little age toned. Some light spotting on some text pages, all images are very bright and clean. Lord Dunsany (1878-1957) was one of the greatest and most influential fantasy writers of modern times. Authors like J.R.R. Tolkien, Clark Ashton Smith and H.P. Lovecraft (who said: "his rich language, his cosmic point of view, his remote dream-worlds, and his exquisite sense of the fantastic, all appeal to me more than anything else in modern literature") were greatly influenced by his works. A good deluxe edition of this imaginative work.
